Li(2) Shen [1073] Yuanfu coalition. Shen contended with both Zhang(2) Dun [333] and Cai(1) Jing [1649]. From the end of the Tang this prominent (zhuxing) Li(2) lineage lived in Wuzhou village (li) of Shaowu jun, Guangze xian. Shen's grandfather, Duo [3536], was the first to use literary ability (wen) and skill in poetry to become well-known in the community (xiangdang), whereas his father, Gao [3512], was the first to earn a jinshi degree in 1042. Since Li(2) Gang's [8078] father Kui [3510] composed the funerary inscription for Shen's brother Jun [3492], who did not hold office, but was called Xishan xiansheng by Yang(2) Shi [2022], the two Shaowu Li(2) lineages were probably related. Shen's wife was Chen(1) Guan(2)'s [7128] elder sister. Shen's son, Yu(d) [3552], was a student and son-in-law of Yang(2) Shi [2022]. Zhu(1) Xi [3257], in his introduction to Yu(2)'s funerary inscription, states that the Xishan xiansheng (Yu) was a menren of Yang(2) Shi [2022] and that Shi [2022] in turn had received his scholarship from the Cheng(1) brothers [3102] [3105]. Zhu(1) Xi further explicitly states that Yu(4) was the son of the Yuanyou coalition member, Li(2) Shen. Yu(4)'s son-in-law was Shaowu resident, Shangguan(1) Moqing [3715]. The father-in-law of Shen's nephew, Chunde [3476], was Shangguan(1) He [3713], a Shaowu, Guangze xian jinshi in 1082. Chunde's son-in-law was Shangguan(1) Ben [3717]. These Shangguan(1) were no doubt kin with the branch of the lineage beginning with Shangguan(1) Hui's [7320] grandfather, Ning [3716], who received the jinshi in 1043. Yu(d)'s nephew-in-law was He(2) Hao [3337], a Shaowu official and disciple of Zhu(1) Xi. For generations the He(2) lineage hid their virtue (yinde) and Hao's father, Dui [3342], was the first to hold office. Huang(2) Zhang [3410], the second father-in-law of Shen's grandnephew, Lu [3517] (whose grandfather was Jun and father was Chunde), was Huang(2) Zhong's [843] younger brother. One of Lu's sons-in-law was Shangguan(1) Jiahui [3711]. The ancestors of another son-in-law, the imperial university graduate and official, Wu(3) Yan [4028], had fled the disorder of the Five Dynasties and moved from Suzhou to Shaowu. His patrilineal ancestors of the immediate three generations did not hold office.
