Sima(1) Chi [1486] None of his direct patrilineal ancestors of the previous three generations held office. His cousin, Yi [3746], whose wife was from the same village (li), did not hold office. His cousin, Hao [3744], also did not hold office. The family all lived together as a large extended kinship unit in Liangshui xiang of Shanzhou, Xiaxian. Chi seems to have been the first member of the family in many generations to gain the jinshi and hold office. Previously, the lineage supported themselves through agriculture and never engaged in commerce. Guang's [1488] and Dan's [3748] father, Hong's [7063] and Kang's [7337] grandfather, Zhuo's [1487] great great grandfather. Dan's grandson, Pu [3747], was offered a post in the Jin government, but he refused. Pu's maternal grandfather was Fan(2) Chunren [559].
