Diao(1) Zhan [1634] His ancestors were Bohai jun Diao(1). In 321 A.D., a member of this lineage served the Eastern Jin emperor Yuandi. His descendants moved to Zhenjiang, Danyang xian. During the Five Dynasties, members of his distinguished lineage (wangzu) served in the administration of the Southern Tang. Zhan's father, Kan [3842] (a Jiangning, Jiangning resident), followed Li(2) Yu(c) [3551] (last ruler of the Southern Tang) to the Song court and was appointed to a post in the Song administration. Kan apparently either moved the family back to Zhenjiang or, more probably, maintained duel residence in the ancestral home and in the capital of the ruling administration as was the common practice among these professional bureaucratic families. Zhan was Yue's [1635] father, Yin's [7353] uncle, Xu(1) Yan's [7116], father-in-law. Another son-in-law was Li(2) You(a) [3549], whose ancestors were Longxi Li(2). Li(2) You's son-in-law was Wu(3) Chong [1960]. Zhan's brother Shi [3844], who moved to Dantu xian, was the grandfather-in-law of Liang(1) Zimei's [1142] grandson or grandnephew, Liang(1) Yu [3566]. Yang(2) Tan(1)'s [2024] son-in-law, Diao(1) Shou [3845], was probably Shi's son. Zhang(1) Mian's [262] son-in-law, Diao(1) Wei [3846], had the same generational name as Zhan's sons and nephews.
