注
Dong(1) Shen(3) [21854] According to the funerary inscriptions that Zhu(1) Xi [3257], Cheng(1) Xun [21912] and Huang(2) Gan(2) [11134] drafted for Dexing county Dong(1) Ling [21909], Qi [21913], Shu(2) [21915] and Weiliang [21922] (q.v.), the Dong(1) were an hereditarily prominant lineage (shi wangzu) of Dexing county that rose to distinction for the first time during Southern Tang in the Baoda period (942-956) when Dong(1) Qian [21907] became a classicist (ru) for the first time. In Song the 6th generation collateral ancestor of (7th generation by my count) Shu(2), Dong(1) Yuan [21855] (who earned the jinshi in 1046) began a cascade of Dexing county Dong degree-holders. Yuan has the same generational indicator as Chong [24508], grandson of Qian and son of Xu [21908]. Xu was the first member of this family to earn a posthumous title based on his son's merit, which can only mean that Yuan was a son of Xu and brother of Chong, who was father of Zhongfu [21856], great grandfather of Ling (q.v.). However, Jiangxi TZ, 21.2b records Shen(3) as the first Dexing jinshi during the Tang Zhenguan period (627-649) and Dexing county residents, who earned distinction through the jinshi or otherwise and who cannot be connected by documented evidence or generational name to a specific family will be treated as lineage kin of Shen(3). For example, Yue [1751], a fiscal official who received the jinshi in 1065 has the same generational indicator in his mingzi as Shu(2), who earned the degree late in life in 1208 (Shu died at age 63 in 1214). Yue is a lineage kin, no doubt, of a senior family in the lineage, but will be treated as a lineage kin of Shen(3). Since sources agree in considering Dexing Dong(1) as members of the same root lineage, I will treat lineage kin designations as documented, but specific connections based on generational name will be treated as undocumented. According to Cheng(1) Xun's funerary inscription for Dong(1) Ling, the Dong(1) ancestry could be traced back to Dong(1) Zhongshu [21906], thereby making them Longxi Dong--Zhongshu's descendants moved to Longxi. There are no documents dating the move to Dexing county.
